Object:

宗教是形成以及影響人類文化與各大文明最重要的動力來源,因此想了解人類的各種活動如,藝術、哲學、社會制度、政治、甚至科學、身心健康等議題,不能不了解宗教。在這個認知框架下,本課程將認識及討論近百年來最重要的學者如何思考-「為何與如何認識宗教」這個中心議題。


一百年前發展出來的佛教研究(始於許多學科中的一個領域,例如區域研究(如亞洲研究,東亞研究)、歷史學科、哲學學科、甚至社會科學學科(如人類學)。跟著宗教研究成為一個獨立的現代學術學科(如-宗教學系 – 相對於傳統神學院/佛學院傳統),佛教研究已經被公認為宗教研究的一個重要的領域,因此宗教研究的進路或研究方法以及重要的理論的認識,也是佛教學術研究的必要基礎。


因此,本課程的具體目標是:

1.目前宗教研究對於宗教本身,與宗教的多層意義的觀點與研究方法的審視

2. 對宗教研究的認識如何幫助我們自己的佛教研究。

This course covers three main topics that follow an historical and doctrinal line of development.
The first topic is that of the Prajnaparamita genre of texts, their history, and core doctrinal content.
The second topic is that of Indian Madhyamaka, as typified by the founder Nagarjuna.
The third topic is the progression of this thought in China through Jizang's Sanlun thought.
We will look at a range of English scholarship on these topics, learning key lines of understanding, and also challenges and ongoing problems.
